Road trip culture is booming again, from TikToks about vintage motels to Gen Z going #vanlife. Rte 66 sits at the heart of it all: a mythic stretch of Americana lined with mom-and-pop diners, quirky roadside attractions, and stories that never made it to the interstate. Mobil 1 saw an opportunity to not just revisit this legendary road, but to reignite it - one weird world record and one small-town celebration at a time.
HITTING THE ROAD & BREAKING RECORDS
To tap into the nostalgia and renewed love for road trips, we transformed Route 66 into a multi-stop celebration of local culture and community pride. At each location, Mobile 1 spotlighted quirky small businesses with big personalities. Frpm a record breaking corndog stand to a milkshake menu with 266 flavors. A towering Muffler Man led the way, becoming both icon and beacon. It wasn’t just a campaign, it was a joyride through Americana, one stop and one story at a time.
